Test 1 (take-home), due Oct 5, 2009 at 2:35pm --

Topics will include those covered in notes from Weeks 1-3, roughly Sections
1.1, 2.1, 2.1.1 (except conics and 3D lines), 2.1.2 (except Additional transformations), 2.1.4 (Orthography and Perspective), 2.1.5 (intuitively only), 2.2, 2.2.1, 2.2.2 (intuitive only), 2.3 (mainly Figure 2.25 and its components), 2.3.1 (intuitive), 2.3.2 (up to, but not including, gamma), 3, 3.1, 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.4, 3.2, 3.2.1 (up to but not including Band-pass and steerable filters), 3.2.2 (Median filtering only), 3.2.3, 3.2.4, 3.2.5 (use the algorithm in the notesfor connected components; notes have much more detail on area statistics) -- Most questions will ask you to analyze or make predictions based on your understanding of a particular effect, or to recognize the result. You are likely to be asked to do simple hand-processing, e.g. morphology, convolution, or distance transforms on given images. I reserve the right to ask a question that requires the use of imageJ to answer it, but you will not be required to program for this exam. There may also be questions of a more synthetic nature, i.e. "here's a problem, which techniques would you use (among the ones we've already studied) and why?" Because the test is open-book, open-note, don't expect questions that can be easily answered by copying a phrase from the book or notes.
